Harry Potter Socks | Harry Potter Party Favors

October 30, 2018

These DIY Harry Potter socks are perfect for your next Harry Potter party. Create the perfect Harry Potter party favor and attach the free Harry Potter printable.  Harry Potter socksThis post contains affiliate links. Thank you for your support.

I’ve partnered up with LEGO to bring your next Harry Potter party to a whole new level. Create your very own Harry Potter socks and attach the LEGO Harry Potter printable to the top of the bag. Manage your own Mischief with these Mischief Managed socks made with your Cricut.

I don’t know if I’ve ever admitted that I’m addicted to any LEGO game and LEGO Harry Potter is my favorite of them all. I can’t decide if I like the Harry Potter years 1-4 or Harry Potter years 5-7 but they’re amazing. They’re even more amazing when you can be the only player in a family of 6. But now you can buy them both at the same time and you know I bought it again for my XBox One.

Use a surface that will help distribute even heat and won’t bend. Ironing boards are not ideal to use with the EasyPress. The middle easily bends and won’t allow you to get an even pressing. I use a wood board because that is what I have for my blogging backdrops. You can use your countertop but some materials will pull the heat from the EasyPress and the temperature will drop. using the small EasyPressPress your iron-on vinyl according to manufacturers instructions. Cricut has a new interactive guide to what kind of heat setting you need and how long to press it using an iron or the EasyPress. If you’re going to use an iron, read this post on how to really get your iron-on vinyl to stay.

Once you’ve pressed your Mischief Managed socks, go ahead and fold them and place them into your cellophane bag. It’s easier if your cellophane bag is flat so that you won’t have issues when you go to staple your Harry Potter treat topper on.  Harry Potter bag topper

I love LEGO’s and they’ve been a favorite of my boys. Malakai even loves the smaller LEGO’s and that works great for his small motor skills. I have yet to figure out a LEGO storage situation in our house though.

Jack Skellington Cupcake Toppers for your next Halloween Party

October 23, 2018

I am not the average person when it comes to the ideas of what can be created during the Halloween season. These Nightmare Before Christmas cupcakes are perfect for ringing in the Halloween season.  This post contains affiliate links. Thank you for your support.

I haven’t met someone who doesn’t love The Nightmare Before Christmas. When I watch the movie I’m all in it for the songs and the animation. Jack Skellington is one of my favorite characters in the film because of his flair for dramatics. Make this Nightmare Before Christmas party food for your next Nightmare Before Christmas party.

Supplies for your Nightmare Before Christmas party cupcakes

So the easy part, print off your Jack Skellington cupcake topper using Cricut Design Space. Then you’ll load them into your Cricut machine and allow that to do the cutting. Cut out the black cardstock of the silhouette so that you have something to place your Jack Skellington pictures to it.

How do I print with my Cricut?

So it’s not actually your Cricut that is printing. To print with your Cricut, you’ll need an actual printer which will print off your design and the registration marks. Place that printed paper onto your Cricut mat and then load it into your machine. The Cricut has an electronic reader near the blade and that will read your registration marks so that your machine will know where to cut.

*You will need to have calibrated your Cricut Machine before you’re able to cut precisely on your Cricut. Go here to learn how to calibrate your Cricut.

Harry Potter Confetti with your Cricut Machine

October 17, 2018

Did you know you can make your own confetti with your Cricut machine? Use your Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore to cut some Cricut party foil and add pizazz to your Harry Potter Party.
how do I cut Cricut party foil This post contains affiliate links. Thank you for your support.

How do you make confetti with your Cricut?

It’s so easy! You just need some party foil and any Cricut machine. Just open the Design Space file and cut away. The smallest image your Cricut can cut is 1/4″. Just keep that in mind. I don’t recommend cutting detailed images that small because the details can get lost. We had Malakai’s first birthday Harry Potter themed and now I’m having a Harry Potter themed Bunco party so my life is basically complete after this.

How do I cut Cricut Party Foil?

Cricut Party Foil is a little bit thicker than the Cricut Vinyl. It doesn’t tear as easily like the Cricut Adhesive Foil. It adds sparkle to any party with the option of 2 types of party foil in each pack. One is holographic and the other is solid. It comes in ten different colors so it’ll coordinate with any theme you want. luna lovegood glasses confetti

Supplies for your DIY Confetti

The only thing in addition that you’d need to buy is the Cricut Party Foil and the SVG file. Everything else is included with your Cricut machine when you buy it. Look through your Design Space and see what Cricut Access images you like and cut those to coordinate your party.

Is Cricut Access worth it?

Cricut Access costs $9.99 a month for images and $6.99 a month for fonts or you can pay in advance for a year for Cricut Access Premium and it’ll give you access to both images and fonts. It gives you access to any shape or font that has the green A in the upper left corner. Or you can pay around $1-$5 for shapes and they’ll be yours forever regardless. If you want to try it for one month and see if it’s worth it, I recommend that. I use a lot of Cricut Access images and it allows me to be more creative.

What setting do I use when cutting Cricut Party Foil?

The great thing about Cricut machines is that the settings have been preset for all Cricut materials. When you use your Cricut Maker to cut Cricut Party Foil, select All Materials in the middle right-hand side. You’ll search for Cricut Party Foil and select that.

When using the Cricut Explore, you’ll set your smart dial to custom and you’ll select Cricut Party Foil from the drop-down menu. Check your material before you fully unload the mat and see if it is cut completely through. If not, just press the C button again.

If you unload your mat and then try to cut again, the cut lines will not be the same. If you don’t unload it and it’s not cut all the way, press the C and it will cut the exact lines again.

I used my Cricut Maker to cut the Party Foil to make my Harry Potter confetti and I used the custom setting but I did have to cut through twice just because I didn’t want to pick out 300 pieces of confetti off my Cricut mat. luna lovegood glasses surrounded by confetti

That’s it. If you’ve ever wondered how to cut Cricut Party Foil, this is how. Check out other Cricut Party Foil ideas below.

DIY Custom Printed Napkins with your Cricut EasyPress 2

September 19, 2018

Did you know that you can make your very own custom printed napkins at home using the Cricut EasyPress 2? I got a chance to sample the 6×7″ EasyPress 2 and I can’t say enough good things about it.

This past August, Cricut held an event called Mountain Make-a-Thon and it was so much fun to just be with other creative people making creative things with our Cricut. At the Cricut Mountain Make-A-Thon, they announced they were coming out with a new and improved version of their original EasyPress. This time the EasyPress 2 comes in 3 different sizes, 6×7″, 9×9″, and 12×10″.

This smaller EasyPress 2 makes it my third so I guess you can say that I’ve got some EasyPress experience. I love the small size and it’s perfect for making your own custom printed napkins. Create your own custom printed napkins at home and at a fraction of the cost. Absolutely, you can! You’re going to want your setting to be around 250°F and press for around 10-15 seconds. Because these were napkins, I was able to use the new EasyPress Mat that is designed for the 6X7″ model. If I was using cardstock, I would want my EasyPress 2 and Mat to be larger than my paper so I don’t make any dents in my paper project.

It’s really simple. You’re going to want to go into Design Space and create a file and be sure that it is sized to fit onto your napkin. Load your Everyday Iron-On into your Cricut machine and don’t forget to reverse your image!

Create your own custom printed napkins at home and at a fraction of the cost. Personalize party napkins to fit any theme. #cricutmade #CricutEasyPress2 #ad #CricutWhat is the difference between Cricut Iron-On Lite and Cricut Everyday Iron-On?

Cricut has reformulated their old Iron-On Lite. The Everyday Iron-On is something that I noticed a huge difference in quality when I compared it to the Iron-On Lite. It releases easier from the carrier sheet and it gives you a better result. It also comes with the StrongBond Guarantee. Which means that if you use the Everyday Iron-On as instructed and you’re not satisfied with the results, they’ll replace it for free.

Create your own custom printed napkins at home and at a fraction of the cost. Personalize party napkins to fit any theme. #cricutmade #CricutEasyPress2 #ad #CricutHow do I use the Cricut EasyPress 2?

This part is probably the easiest of this whole thing. You’re going to want to weed your image and leave what you want to press on to your custom printed napkins on the carrier sheet.

Preheat your EasyPress 2 to 250ºF. The new EasyPress 2 heats up a lot faster than the original and it can now go up to 400ºF. Keeping your EasyPress 2 on the Safety Base is also important so that other items can remain protected.

Place your napkin on to the EasyPress Mat. Place your image on to your napkins and then press for 10-15 seconds. Remove your Everyday Iron-On while your image is still hot. Some HTV is a cold peel process so be sure to read all the manufacturers instructions.

Cut a Wooden Cake Topper with your Cricut Maker

Using your Knife Blade on the Cricut Maker is a game-changer. Learn how easy it is to create a wooden cake topper out of basswood below. Make your own DIY cake topper by learning how to cut wood with your Cricut. #cricutmaker #cricut #cricutmadeThis post contains affiliate links, thank you for your support.

First of all, this princess party turned out better than I could have imagined and it was all made easier with my Cricut Maker. Learn how to cut wood with your Cricut Maker and what wood is best to use when using your Cricut Knife Blade.

Supplies for Princess Cake Topper

What kind of wood can I cut with the Cricut Knife Blade?

You can cut any wood that is 2.6mm thick. I recommend using basswood that is 1/16″ or 3/32″ wide. If you cut balsa wood the passes are not as many with the knife blade but you have a very fragile piece of wood. The best wood for your Cricut cake topper would be something sturdy.

What wood should I use for a wooden Cricut DIY cake topper?

I would 100% use basswood. It will hold up far better than balsa wood. It gives you a sturdy wooden cake topper that can be reused if you store it properly. You can also layer the basswood and make it thicker and sturdy.

What adhesive should I use with my wooden Cricut DIY cake topper?

I really like Aileens Wood Glue to layer the basswood together. You can use binder clips or even quilting binding clips to press it together while it dries. Or even easier, use a heavy book. The only thing that would concern me there is maybe glue can be pressed out and can adhere your wooden cake topper to the book.

For this particular DIY cake topper, I used my Xyron Creative Station and it worked well. It is not sealed on top of the paper so you’re more prone to grease spots if you do it this way.

Make your own DIY cake topper by learning how to cut wood with your Cricut. #cricutmaker #cricut #cricutmadeCan I cut intricate images with the Cricut Knife Blade?

The recommended smallest area you should cut is about the size of a pencil eraser and don’t go thinner than the width of a pencil. I have tried to cut really intricate settings and it either split the wood or would break as I was removing it from the mat.

Should I remove small inner images as I cut with my Cricut Knife Blade?

If you remove the small areas that are lifting as you cut your images, it will throw the cut out of sync. It will begin to cut areas a bit off of the actual cut line because it doesn’t have a surface holding it in-place like before. Some of the smaller intricate pieces will pop up as your cutting but I would only recommend removing it if it’s getting in the way of the blade and stopping the cut.

Make your own DIY cake topper by learning how to cut wood with your Cricut. #cricutmaker #cricut #cricutmadeHow can I make my homemade DIY cake topper food safe?

Many sealants are only labeled food-safe after going through a rigorous FDA approval. I would recommend using Mod Podge because it is non-toxic but it is not declared food-safe. Most craft supplies are not food safe. But since you don’t actually want it to get on your food, I’d cover the stakes of your cake topper with some cling film after you’ve applied your Mod Podge.

If you don’t want to seal it, go ahead. Just stick the wood straight into the cake and call it good. I would only recommend sealing it if you painted or stained it and planned to reuse it. Make your own DIY cake topper by learning how to cut wood with your Cricut. #cricutmaker #cricut #cricutmade

Next, select to cut your image again but this time mirror the image. Load your coordinating paper on to your mat and then cut again.

Run your cardstock images into your Xyron Creative Station right side up. This will turn your images into stickers and then you can sandwich them together. If you’re using wet adhesive, set it aside to dry. Connect the ends of your DIY Princess Crown together and use your easy craft adhesive. DIY Cupcake Toppers for a Woodland Party

September 12, 2018

These Woodland DIY Cupcake Toppers are really perfect for any party but made customizable with Derwent Water-Soluble Markers and Xyron. Having a forest themed party anytime soon? Learn how easy it is to create your own woodland animal party decor. #derwent #xyron #cricut #cricutmadeThis post contains affiliate links. Thank you for your support.

These DIY Cupcake Toppers are so easy. I made the customized cupcake toppers using some woodland animals I found in Cricut Design Space and printed them directly on the Derwent Marker Paper. Jessica from Everyday Party Magazine created a similar party crown by using her Derwent Markers and the drawing feature with her Cricut.

Supplies for DIY Cupcake Toppers

Begin by trimming down your Derwent Marker Paper to be 8.5X11″ so that it can fit into your printer paper tray. Print off the woodland animals for your DIY Cupcake Toppers and load them into your Cricut machine. For an easy tutorial on how to use the Print Then Cut feature for your Cricut, go here.

How do I make Paper Rosettes?

Making paper rosettes is really easy when you have the right tools. I like to use my Cricut Maker with the Scoring Wheel. The Cricut Scoring Wheel gives me deep impressions so that doing the accordion fold on each of the rosettes is easier. You can also use a scoring board and a paper trimmer to make the edges of the rosettes flat.

Now you’re going to cut out your rosette shapes and adhere them with the Xyron Tape Runner. I like to use clips to hold it together until the adhesive sets. Just some standard quilting binding clips are the best ones I’ve been able to find.

To see how to assemble your rosette shapes from your Cricut, head here to see how I made my Patriotic Rosettes a few months back.

As your paper rosettes are setting, color each of the woodland animal shapes in any coordinating colors. I used Orange, Scarlet Red, and Brown for the squirrel and then Gray and Light Blue for the raccoon.Having a forest themed party anytime soon? Learn how easy it is to create your own woodland animal party decor. #derwent #xyron #cricut #cricutmadeUse your larger circle as the base and then use the Xyron Tape Runner to adhere the Derwent Marker Paper to the coordinating cardstock. Now use some strong adhesive to place the circle on to the middle of your rosette.

How to Turn a Rosette into a Cupcake Topper?

Use a wooden skewer and place that on the cupcake topper so that it can sit on your cupcake straight.

Now you’ve created the most perfect DIY Cupcake Topper using the grass rosette shape and some circles. Your children or your own party will be awesome with some personalized party decor.

Magical White Chocolate Unicorn Bark

You absolutely loved my Unicorn Pancakes, take it a step further and make this magical White Chocolate Unicorn Bark. Load it up with sprinkles and handmade Unicorn horns and you’re set for the perfect Unicorn party.

Begin by making your Unicron Horns our of the pink fondant. You’re going to want to take a piece the size of a bouncy ball and then roll it out and taper it at the edges. Bring the two ends together and then twist. Set them aside to dry.Create the perfect Unicorn Party Food by making this magical unicorn white chocolate bark. #delish #unicornparty #unicornfood

How do I temper chocolate in the microwave?

Next, place a piece of parchment paper on top of a baking sheet. You’re going to want to temper your white chocolate and that can easily be done in the microwave.

Head to this post to see how I temper candy melts but tempering chocolate in the microwave is practically the same.

To temper chocolate in the microwave, begin with about 2/3 of your chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. You’re going to want to heat in 30-second intervals and stirring between each rotation. Once your chocolate is almost melted completely, add in your other 1/3 of chocolate to help bring the heat down.

To warm your chocolate, just microwave in 10-second intervals until it returns to the same consistency. But this recipe, we won’t worry about that.

Pour your melted white chocolate over the parchment and then spread with an offset spatula. You can absolutely just use a silicone spatula but I love the way and offset spatula spreads so use that if you have one. Create the perfect Unicorn Party Food by making this magical unicorn white chocolate bark. #delish #unicornparty #unicornfoodNext, warm your purple candy melts in the same fashion as the chocolate or go here to see how I’ve done it in the past.

Pour the warmed purple candy melts over the white chocolate bark and then swirl with a toothpick to create your white chocolate Unicorn Bark.

Now the fun part! Pour your sprinkles over the warm Unicorn Bark and then place your fondant unicorn horns all around and let it firm in the refrigerator. Create the perfect Unicorn Party Food by making this magical unicorn white chocolate bark. #delish #unicornparty #unicornfood

How do you break chocolate bark?

The last step is the break the Unicorn Bark. To break my chocolate bark, I took the parchment paper off of the pan and then dropped it on my countertop. You can use a knife too. Just do whichever you prefer.

I love to serve this in some parchment bags or just pile it on a plate and allow others to serve themselves. Either way, you definitely have a hit on your hands with this white chocolate Unicorn Bark.

Unicorn Bark

Make this magical unicorn bark for your next unicorn party. It's the perfect addition to your unicorn dessert table.

Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American
Keyword: chocolate bark, unicorn, unicorn recipe
Author: Lindsay
Ingredients
  • 4 oz ready-made white fondant
  • 2 oz ready-made red fondant
  • Cornstarch for rolling
  • 2 cups white chocolate
  • 1 cup purple candy melts
  • 3 tsp coconut oil divided
  • 1 cup sprinkles of your choice
Instructions
  1. Start by lining a cookie sheet with wax paper. Cover your fingers in cornstarch, as well as your clean working surface (this will avoid any sticky messes). Fold both fondant colors and knead together, creating a pink-marbled look and roll 12-15 fondant spheres, about ¼ of an inch in diameter.
  2. Roll each sphere into a long strip, about 1 inch in length.
  3. Slightly fold over your strip and start twisting. Once you reach the end of the twist, pinch the tip. This will act as your unicorn horn. Gently place your fondant creations on your lined baking sheet.
  4. Line a rectangular pan with wax paper. Add white chocolate and 2 tsp of your coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in thirty-second intervals until completely melted. Mix and pour into your lined pan.
  5. Next, add purple candy and 1 tsp coconut oil into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in thirty-second intervals until completely melted and pour over your melted white chocolate. Use a fork to blend the white chocolate and the purple candy to create a marbled look.
  6. Top your bark with sprinkles and your fondant horns. Let set in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes and break off into pieces.
