Disney Cars came out last year with their third instalment of the series. I don’t know if it’ll be the last and I’m kind of hopeful it’s not. It is a little played out but I’ll still see it and Malakai will watch it all.day.long. This DIY Cars Pillow was perfect for him to lay his head down and turn on the movies.

I used the black fabric as the black color and I saved some money because I didn’t need to buy that color. Create your very own Lightning McQueen pillow using your Cricut Maker. #disneycraft #disneycars #cricutmade #cricutmaker #diyBegin by cutting out your fabric with the Cricut Maker. You’ll cut one black circle and 2 black rectangles that you’ll sew together to make one long strip.

After you’ve cut your black circle, place the Iron-On Vinyl. Us your EasyPress or Iron and start with the red. Next, line up your yellow bolts and then lay the white on the top. Use a towel or a protective mat to protect your red and yellow HTV as you press the others. Create your very own Lightning McQueen pillow using your Cricut Maker. #disneycraft #disneycars #cricutmade #cricutmaker #diy

Cut the other circle with your Cars patterned fabric. You don’t have to use Cars fabric but it’s just an added bonus. Pin your black strip to one of the circles and then sew the ends of the strip together when they meet. Now sew one of the circles to the side strip.Create your very own Lightning McQueen pillow using your Cricut Maker. #disneycraft #disneycars #cricutmade #cricutmaker #diy You will now sew the second circle to the side strip. Leave an opening about 4 inches wide and then stuff with filler. Hand stitch the pillow closed. So easy and it’s such a fun Disney Cars craft.Create your very own Lightning McQueen pillow using your Cricut Maker. #disneycraft #disneycars #cricutmade #cricutmaker #diy

These DIY Valentine Pillows were a lot of fun to make. Check out other ideas that you can use your Cricut for other Valentine crafts.

Supplies for your Valentine Pillows

So start by uploading your images into Design Space. Since these are .svg files, it’s just a straight download. You don’t need to edit the image before importing it.

For the girl’s face, I used plain htv for the eyes, bow, and mouth. For her cheeks, I used pink glitter.

Love you to the moon and back SVG

On the Moon and Back image, I used black glitter and weeded it using my BrightPad. You don’t have to have one but it’s been a lifesaver when weeding glitter htv. Because the image is pretty detailed, some of the glitters peeled up. For that reason, I just pulled up all the polka dots in the O and A. I just used some scissors to clean up the lines.

how to use the cricut bright pad

If you use the standard Iron-On for that image, you should be ok. When you’re ready to press, use the Cricut EasyPress to get good adhesion. For easy weed htv, use your EasyPress at 305º for 25-30 seconds.

When you use your EasyPress for glitter Iron-On, use 325º for 25-30 seconds. Use your Iron-On Protection sheet to be sure not to have the EasyPress touch any exposed Iron-On. Or you can just lay the carrier sheet back over the image.

DIY Hairpin Leg End Table

April 6, 2015

DIY End TableThis DIY Hairpin Leg End Table was just as easy as my other DIY Side Table and costs were around the same except when it came to the legs. The longer the legs, the more expensive it’s going to get but you can for sure get away with only using 2 just like Alison with Two Thirty-Five Designs did with her table. That’s where I got the inspiration from for mine but I wanted mine to be portable and change locations whenever I felt the need!Kleenex First things first. I headed to Home Depot and grabbed the essentials. A 12″ board of Poplar wood and had them cut it on site. They cut two 22″ sections and 2 6″ sections. I grabbed some Rustoleum stain in the mini jars and the color that I chose is called Driftwood, a perfect washed grey. I needed some Gorilla Glue and some 1 1/4″ screws for my Hairpin Legs. Speaking of the legs, I grabbed mine here off Etsy. They were made to order, fast shipping and I was really pleased with the quality.

I began first with sanding and staining the wood. Of course, the parts where the saw left those brittle cuts on the wood, those were going to be the inside of the table. However, I wanted to be sure and get a good covering on the wood. I only did one coat and this was my first time using this stain. I really liked it. I just wiped it on and let it sit for 2 minutes to get the look I wanted and then took a lint free cloth and wiped it off. I set it aside to dry for about 2 hours. Ryobi Air StrikeThen it was time for the assembly. It’s literally a box. I started with a piece of the 22″ board and a 6″ piece. I placed some glue along both edges that were going to be touching and I then used my Ryobi AirStrike nail gun and nailed them in place with 1 1/2″ finishing nails. I did the 6″ sections on both ends of the 22″ base and then laid the other 22″ top on top of the other pieces.

Gorilla GlueThis is when they say clamps are necessary but did I have them, no. I picked them up at the store but I didn’t know what size to get, if I’d ever use them again so I put them back. Get some so you don’t strain yourself. Even though these pieces were cut square, they weren’t nailing together square so I had to do some maneuvering. I got it into place but it’s not perfect and I’m ok with that, you may however not be. It’s completely up to you. Ryobi Drill TableNow that the box is assembled, go ahead and grab your drill and hairpin legs. You want to be sure that your screws will be able to penetrate the wood so begin by marking the holes. Then take an awl and dig into the wood a bit or hit the awl with a hammer to create a divot. Now if you want you can take the extra step and use some liquid nails to really secure the hairpin legs or just screw it directly to the wood like I did.

I just used some spray poly and allowed it to dry for 48 hours in my garage and now it’s up in my master bedroom. I’ve got plans to paint my walls a creamy white and to add some accessories. Robin’s Egg Blue sort of weighs on you after a while…it’s still a pretty color though, it’s just time for a change. Hairpin Leg TableI really like the weaving that I did with some fabulous bloggers one night, Remodelaholic, Amy Robison, and The Project Girl. We had so much fun together and we got a little wild.

Master Bedroom Inspiration

March 19, 2015

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #InspiredHome #CollectiveBias

Frenchie bedroom inspirtaionWhat can I say about my master bedroom other than that it’s a hot mess. My husband and I have been talking about redecorating it for 2 years now and it’s not moved in a single direction. I’m getting antsy and I’m starting to get frustrated. I now know that what look I want and I’ve known for a while so I’m going to start doing things on my own and hopefully he’ll get the clue I’m moving on without him.

One place that I don’t want to spend a ton of money on but I know it’ll be worth the most investment is the flooring. I knew when we were building this house that there were a few things that I wanted to spend the money to upgrade with the builder because I knew we could pretty much do the rest ourselves. One of those was flooring. I wish I spent more money on the padding and really upgrading to the finest of the finest.

We don’t have terrible carpet but it’s only been 8 years and we’re already needing to upgrade the heavier traffic areas.

I just thought I had done enough research on my own but I didn’t check with the experts and that’s where I went wrong. I really should have taken the time to talk to more people and one of the experts I had a chance to talk to recently were some people at Carpet One. Right now is a great time to buy because they are having an awesome #DDIY sale (Don’t Do It Yourself). You can check out some more options they are offering on the above link but some things I don’t want to tackle, and that’s flooring. I stopped by their store recently and they were able to give me a free estimate. I was so pleased with their customer service and the products they were able to offer to me. Another great service they offer is a free in home estimate. They’ll come to your home and do the measurements and bring you all the samples so you won’t even need to go into the store yourself.

I feel comfortable with a store like Carpet One because they are all individual owned and operated and my mom has had a window covering store for 20 years that is also a franchise business. They really stand behind everything and they can really get some great products and have good connections because of their name. The other great thing is that if you’re not satisfied, they’ll replace it for free!

Of the few things that I can do on my own, the things I know I can’t do well is build large pieces of furniture. I leave that to the pros. That’s why I purchased a bed, similar to the one in the picture. I surprised my husband with it, lol.  How do you just buy something like that in secret? How can you just hide something like that?

Check out this YouTube channel full of #DDIY fun. I do hope that I can style my room as close to the board above and I’ll keep you update on how that comes along.

I love Ikea! I’ve compiled some super easy Ikea ideas and things that I’ve done to them. This isn’t even most that I want to do. I’m still saving my pennies.

Wallternatives, an excellent alternative

June 2, 2014

Wallpaper can be intimidating. Use these Wallternatives to update your look without the commitment. This is a sponsored post, all opinions are my own. Make your little girls dream come true without the commitment of wallpaper. Use Wallternatives removable wallpaperThis post also contains affiliate links. Thank you for your support.

I think wallpaper is scary. I’m about to embark on that adventure in my bathroom but let’s just say it took MONTHS to choose the pattern and it’s sitting in my garage cause I’m still nervous to put it up. I’m happy with what I chose and can’t wait to see it but wallpaper, in general, is such a hassle. That’s why I’m so glad that companies like Wallternatives exist. It gives you the option to try things out and when you’re done with it, you peel it off. So easy.

Wallternatives Frenchie 4

While I was at SNAP! in April, I had the chance to meet them and to try some of Royal Design Studios stencils and their new line of decals. That’s where Wallternatives comes in. They’ve got these awesome fabric decals that you can reuse endless amounts of times and they always remain sticky. I don’t know how many times I removed mine cause it wasn’t straight and it just went right back on.

Wallternatives Frenchie 6I chose to use the Wood Block Alphabet Letter Tiles in pink/medium for Leila’s room. It came in 2 sheets, rolled up and ready to use. That’s what I like! I started with the Z and ended in the middle of my wall…not smart…don’t do what I did. The good thing is, when I have more time and when I’m up for it, I can always come back and change it, but for now I’m going to leave it. I think I may put a picture of some type on that side and tie it all together.

Her room has always been a mystery to me. I’m not even sure if I like it now. Do you like that I don’t even have bedding for her?? This room has always gotten the tail end of everything. After the bathrooms are done and the master bedroom is done, this is the room I’m going to complete but I’m notorious for starting things and not finishing. I’ve got to end that!

Wallternatives Frenchie 5This is how her room started, a boring pale pink. I don’t even know the color, it was on clearance at Smith’s Marketplace. I’m shuddering in embarrassment right now! Her “bookcase” and light are from Ikea and the sign I made from Poppy Seed Projects.

Wallternatives Frenchie 3I was expecting the corners to be tricky but they were easy as pie. I just placed it where I needed it on the one side of the wall and rubbed my hand across the decal and it smoothed across the indent of the corner. Install took me less than an hour for the whole thing from taking it out of the box to throwing away the trash. I love the look that it gives the room and it was the easiest thing I’ve done in a long time…and I finished!!

Wallternatives FrenchieNot only does Wallternatives have WallPrints™ Fabric Decals, they also have ChalkTalk™ Chalkboard Art, Designer Vinyl Decals and coming soon they’ll have WallAppeal™ removable wallpaper and EtchLook™ Decals to look like etched glass. Check out their site, it’s got some great some great stuff on it.
