Supplies for your Goosebumps 2 Felt Masks

  • Cricut Maker or Scissors
  • Felt Masks SVG file or Printable Templates – see below
  • Felt in an Arrangement of Colors
  • Feathers
  • Glitter
  • Craft Glue
  • Elastic or Ribbon
  • Sewing Machine or Sewing Needle
  • or Hot Glue Gun and Hot Glue Sticks

If you have a Cricut Maker, cutting the felt masks are a lot more precise and cleaner but this can be easily done with the printable templates. I’ve included SVG files for your Cricut Maker or the Printable Template. Cut out your felt masks with either method and then get ready to embellish! I used some glitter on my Gummy Bear masks, white feathers on my Abominable Snowman, Brown Feathers on my Werewolf, and left Slappy as plain felt because he’s already creepy enough. Use some craft glue to adhere your glitter to the areas you want glittered. I just use either a foam brush or paint brush to get an even coat of glue rather than clumps. Just put some on your mask, brush it to even it out and then shake your glitter over it. Set it aside to dry.

e>

Carefully shake your glittered felt masks over a garbage can to catch all that excess glitter.

For the feathers, I wanted them to really stick so I sewed them on my masks. I started on the back portion of the felt masks and then worked my way in, Use the inner piece of your cut felt masks to overlay the back portion and hide the seams. You can easily use a hot glue gun rather than sewing it, I just like to make sure my projects will last.

How do I assemble my felt masks?

When it’s time to do the elastic to hold your mask on, measure around your head and then cut. I usually measure ear to ear and that will give me a secure fit and also it’ll fit my child’s head. Use your sewing machine to sew the elastic on the outer edge of your masks. I use a zig-zag stitch to make sure that it won’t break away. I used some ribbon that I had on hand for my felt masks. I just used some hot glue and adhered it to the back of the masks and allowed it to dry. Don’t feel like you need a sewing machine for your felt masks. Now it’s time to wear it! Enjoy watching Goosebumps 2 for family movie night and everyone enjoying their spooky felt masks. I personally love the Gummy Bear scene in Goosebumps 2 and how they all merge together to make larger ones.

DIY Felt Hedwig for your Harry Potter Christmas Tree

October 25, 2018

Use your Cricut to cut out this felt Hedwig ornament for your Harry Potter themed Christmas tree. diy Harry Potter ornamentThis post contains affiliate links. Thank you for your support.

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love Harry Potter. I’ve seen all the movies but have only read the first two books. Don’t get after me for my lack of HP knowledge but I can make a mean Harry Potter Christmas Tree. Create these felt Hedwig ornaments to hang along with your other DIY Harry Potter ornaments.

Supplies for your DIY Harry Potter Ornament

To make your Harry Potter Christmas Ornament, use your Cricut Maker to cut out all of your felt pieces along with your feather detail out of the iron-on vinyl.felt owl cutouts* Because of the small pieces that needed to be cut by the rotary blade, the blade will over cut on those pieces causing them to break away easier from the other felt. That’s ok. Just continue gluing those pieces to the top of the owl cut out and you won’t be able to tell. using the Cricut EasyPressYou can use an iron for your HTV or I have an < EasyPress so I just use that. The most important thing to remember when using iron-on vinyl is that you need to mirror your image. The most important thing to remember when you’re pressing the iron-on vinyl on your surface is to have no steam.

If you’re using foil iron-on vinyl, always wait for it to cool before you peel. I just wait until it is cool to the touch. You will need to give it a firmer pull when you take the carrier sheet off of your foil iron-on.

How do I glue felt together?

I use Aileen’s Fabric Fusion to glue my felt together. It is permanent and gives a great adhesion without having to add heat. It sets in 2-4 hours or there is a quick-dry fabric fusion that dries 5X faster.

Hot glue is also an option but it’s hot and it hurts when you burn your fingers 😉 applying fabric glue to feltglueing felt to feltgluing the beak to a felt owlTake the small tab and place a dot of glue at the end and then fold it in half. Use a clip to hold it in place while it dries.

Now that the front of your Harry Potter Hedwig ornament is mostly dry, it’s time to assemble the entire ornament.

Place glue on the front of your back piece (this will be the middle). Put your tab between Hedwig’s ears and then put a bit more glue on the bottom of that tab. Put your top piece over the glued area and the tab and then set aside to dry. hand holding 3 Hedwig ornamentsOnce your Harry Potter ornament is dry, thread some twine or ribbon through the loop and tie. You’ll now have your DIY Hedwig ornament complete. Stay tuned for more Harry Potter ornaments to be revealed throughout the season. felt Hedwig ornament

Make Handmade Cactus Watercolour Prints

July 25, 2018

These cactus printables are perfect to hang in a nursery or in your home. Use some Derwent Academy Watercolour supplies to make it tens times better than a black and white printable. This post contains affiliate links. Thank you for your support.

I made these cactus printables even better by using some Derwent Academy products and my Xyron Sticker Maker. Create your own 3D cactus art by following the easy steps below .These cactus printables are perfect for home decor. Use some Derwent watercolour pencils and add the perfect dimension to this already great artwork. #CactusPrintables #CactusPrint When I began experimenting with different art mediums, watercolors were always a favorite of mine. I learned that you have to start with the lightest colour and then moving into dark colors when with oil paint, you have to do the opposite. Watercolor dries fast and using Derwent Academy Watercolour Pencil Tins and Derwent Academt assorted brushes are a great alternative to panned watercolors.

Supplies

Begin by printing out the cactus printables just on standard copy paper. You will then trace the cactus images onto your Derwent Academy Watercolour Pad paper using a waterproof pen. These cactus printables are perfect for home decor. Use some Derwent watercolour pencils and add the perfect dimension to this already great artwork. #CactusPrintables #CactusPrint These cactus printables are perfect for home decor. Use some Derwent watercolour pencils and add the perfect dimension to this already great artwork. #CactusPrintables #CactusPrintUse your Derwent Academy Watercolour Pencils and use whichever color palette you want. I used 4 shades of green and then I took the assorted brushes and hastily applied water over my pencil shades.

I wanted an imperfect look so I didn’t follow any outer lines and even got some splashes on the paper. To do that, blend your colors and before washing out your brush, just flick it over the paper. These cactus printables are perfect for home decor. Use some Derwent watercolour pencils and add the perfect dimension to this already great artwork. #CactusPrintables #CactusPrint Allow it to dry and then cut some free formed floral shapes out of your felt. I used a coral color but, again, use whatever fits into your color scheme. Run the felt through your Xyron Sticker Maker and then apply it directly to the paper. For a more dimensional look, I layered them and scrunched some areas together for bulk. These cactus printables are perfect for home decor. Use some Derwent watercolour pencils and add the perfect dimension to this already great artwork. #CactusPrintables #CactusPrintFrame these perfect watercolor cactus printables for your home or as an easy gift for a home warming present. I love these and I’m saving these for when we move and I can get some artwork up on more walls! These cactus printables are perfect for home decor. Year of the Dog Pennant – Perfect for the Chinese New Year

February 9, 2018

I love celebrating all cultures with my children. What better way to celebrate the Chinese New Year other than a Year of the Dog Pennant.

Year of the Dog Pennant

My niece and nephews are in a Chinese language immersion program at their local schools. My kids take the French program at ours. I think that bringing in new cultures to our own is so important.

I love celebrating the Chinese New Year because its a start to new and a way to honor the old traditions. Some of my favorite Chinese New Year traditions are gifting money in red envelopes, wearing your traditional Chinese clothing and honoring your ancestors. For this Year of the Dog pennant, I cut it on my Cricut Maker and ironed it on with my EasyPress or you can use your standard home iron. To use your iron, use these tips here.

Supplies

Chinese New Year, Year of the Dog DIY Pennant. Such an easy craft to ring in the Chinese New Year.
using the cricut easy press
how to remove the carrier sheet from iron on vinyl
how to make a felt pennant

Cut your file and be sure that your image is selected to mirrored. You’ll want to place your iron-on vinyl shiny side down on your mat. Select the iron-on setting and cut. With iron-on vinyl, you do not want to cut through the carrier sheet. You’ll pull off the negative areas, leaving your image on the carrier sheet.

Set your EasyPress to 305° and allow it to warm up. Warm your surface for about 10 seconds and place your image onto your pennant. Press for 30 seconds on the front, turn it over and press for an additional 15 seconds.

When using your EasyPress, you want to press on a firm surface. I use a wooden surface with a towel folded on top. You want the towel so that you have a bit of give and the crevices of your material will be warmed and glued. If you find your EasyPress losing temperature while your pressing, it is because the surface underneath is pulling the heat. Pressing pillows are great for this purpose too.

Thread your dowel through the cut holes and then tie a ribbon on the ends to hang your Year of the Dog pennant.

I honestly hate using the sticker labels for Christmas and I’m gonna be honest, not everyone in the family gets a gift tag. I usually save these felt gift tags for neighbor gifts or other family. My kids get their gifts in their own wrapping paper. I just slip whatever paper is their’s into their stocking and they’re set for the rest of the morning.Cut felt with your Cricut Maker and make Holiday Gift TagsThese felt gift tags are really for special gifts and that’s why I love them. They’re so easy to make with your Cricut Maker and the rotary blade attachment. Use some of Cricut’s new felt that is stiff enough for fine cutting and you’re set.

Supplies

Cut felt with your Cricut Maker and make Holiday Gift TagsBegin by applying your felt to your pink fabric grip mat. If your mat has lost some of it’s stickiness, I suggest using the applicator tool to help rub it down firmly. One thing to never do it clean your pink mat. I know that there are suggestions all over the internet but cleaning it is not recommended. A way to keep it from losing the stickiness is to try to never touch it with your hands. The applicator comes with a removal tool that are great for avoiding touching.Cut felt with your Cricut Maker and make Holiday Gift TagsLoad your mat into the Cricut Maker. Be sure that the mat is pressed against the rollers when loading your project. Doing this will ensure that your mat cuts on the 12×12″ area.Cut felt with your Cricut Maker and make Holiday Gift TagsOnce all your felt is cut, assemble your pieces together. I use fabric glue for this part or you could easily use hot glue. Use it at a high temp so that the felt will stick to each other.Tie your bow onto your gift and attach the felt gift tags by attaching the ribbon onto the loops included with your image. Make a Mermaid Pillow with your Cricut Maker

October 30, 2017

This mermaid pillow was so fun to make with my daughter. She loved picking out the fabrics.
See how easy it is to make with your Cricut Maker.Create this easy Mermaid doll from Simplicity using your Cricut MakerThis post contains affiliate links.

Supplies:

Make a mermaid doll with your Cricut makerThis mermaid doll was so easy to make and it was all thanks to my Cricut Maker. I used the rotary blade with the fabrics and the felt and it cuts so smooth. The darts are all included and you can choose if you want the pen to do the markings.

I chose to do the markings on the face so that I could do the embroidery on it. I just used a simple backstitch to complete the eyes and lips. Mermaid doll diyThe flower was easy to assemble as well. I used the purple felt that comes in the felt sampler pack from Cricut. I like the Cricut felt because it is stiff. You can get a good clean cut from it and it doesn’t slide on your mat. I’ve cut different brands of felt on my Maker and I do like the Cricut felt best. Some wool felt I had would move as I was cutting or when I peeled off the mat, the entire piece of felt fell apart. It’s all trial and error when you’re cutting materials on any machine though.DIY Mermaid doll with CricutTo assemble the mermaid doll, follow these instructions. assemble the front of the doll and then the back of the doll. Sew them together right sides facing each other and then leave about 3-4″ on the tail. make a mermaid doll with your CricutStuff your mermaid pillow doll with some pillow stuffing or I just used few snow that I bought on clearance years ago, works just as good for stuffies. Now whip stitch the opening closed. Now you can attach your flower to your doll and you’re done.

This mermaid pillow doll was a lot of fun to put together. It’s the first time that I let my daughter pick out coordinating fabrics and that was a hard thing to give up. She loves her personalized mermaid doll and loves that I loved to make it for her. One day I’ll let her use my sewing machine…one day.make a mermaid doll with your Cricut

How to create your own felt play money with your Cricut Explore

This felt play money was so easy to make. It is a little time consuming but I know it’ll last throughout the years which is perfect for play-time!

Supplies

First, use your Heat-n-Bond and iron it on to your felt. This just gives the felt more of a stabilizer and it makes the money thicker by having two layers ironed together. Next, lay your felt on your cutting mat and cut your images. I’ve included everything in the one cut file for ease. To select certain shapes to be cut, just click on the eye that is to the right of the image in your layer section. It’ll hide and show the images you want to be cutting. Just play around and you’ll get the hang of it.

Learn how to make your own felt play money using your Cricut ExploreWeed out the foil using your weeding tool or an x-acto knife. You want to remove whatever part of the image you don’t want. Be sure to leave whatever you do want on the clear plastic sheet. This will make transferring your image so much easier.
Learn how to make your own felt play money using your Cricut ExplorePlace your felt pieces together and add on your iron-on. I use this method for my ironing. It helps the image really stay and I don’t have any images lifting afterwards.
Learn how to make your own felt play money using your Cricut Explore Be sure not to use steam because it’ll create bubbles in your image. Now that you have one side adhered, flip it over and use the second image. If you use the heat-n-bond and don’t sandwich the felt together, your felt will stick to the surface you’re ironing on. It’ll also make it harder to make your play money double sided.Learn how to make your own felt play money using your Cricut Explore I added the Lincoln and Washington faces to their respected ‘coins’ and I used the same method I did for the dollar bills. Just be a little extra careful because the images are small and you can burn yourself on the iron. I didn’t worry about being sure my faces faced the right way on both sides of the coin but you can if you’d like.
Learn how to make your own felt play money using your Cricut ExploreI grabbed the girls this cute register from Ikea and now they can play McDonald’s anytime they want. My mom has some mini windows in her area under the stairs so the girls are always playing drive-thru. Learn how to make your own felt play money using your Cricut Explore This play money is so sturdy and will last a long time. If I didn’t worry about quality, I could have easily bought the paper play money but I want the kids to have this for a long time so I took the extra effort and created it in sturdy felt.Learn how to make your own felt play money using your Cricut Explore The foil iron-on is so awesome too. I’ve been wanting Cricut to come up with a true gold and silver metallic iron-on and this foil one lives up to all the expectations.
