Custom T-Shirt for Valentines Day – FREE Heart Throb SVG

January 4, 2019

Make a Custom T-Shirt for Valentines Day with this super cute free Valentine SVG file. Make it for a toddler or that natural heartthrob in your life. Use your Cricut, Silhouette, or Brother Scan ‘N Cut to create this easy Valentine T-Shirt.

This post contains affiliate links. Thank you for your support.

I love making seasonal SVG files and for the past few months I made a Baby, It’s Really Freaking Cold Outside mug and my New Year, Same Mess t-shirt. I wanted to create a boy version of what I’m planning on showing you on Tuesday (it’s super cute). Create this easy custom t-shirt in no time.

How do I make a custom t-shirt?

To make your own custom t-shirt you’re going to need a few essentials. You’re going to need an electronic cutting machine and some Heat Transfer Vinyl (also known as Iron On or HTV). You will also need a weeding tool, heat press, Cricut EasyPress or an Iron.

To learn how to apply HTV in layers and with an Iron, click here.

You want something that has zero steam. You can use your iron but be sure that the temperature is correct and the steam function is off. Read your manufacturers instructions on what temperature to use and if your HTV is cold or hot peel.

When cutting your image from a Cricut or Silhouette, you need to be sure that the mirror function is on. You want to cut it in mirror mode and then you will weed or peel off what you do not want on your t-shirt. You do not want your image to cut completely through the carrier sheet.

Your entire image will be on the carrier sheet. Obviously, each color is different here so I had three images on three separate carrier sheets. I started with the Heart saying and then pressed for around 20 seconds, then the black for 20 and then the grey for 30 seconds, turned the shirt over and pressed for another 15 seconds.

When using multiple colors of HTV, you want to be sure that whatever you pressed before is covered before you press the next image. Just use the carrier sheet that you peeled off first and lay it over the red after you have laid the black image down.

Just to be clear, start with your red and press 20 seconds, peel off the carrier sheet from the red image and then lay your black image down. Place the carrier sheet from the red back over the areas that would be exposed when you’re pressing the black image. Do the same for the grey heart to ensure that the black and red are covered again.

I love using my EasyPress to customize items you normally wouldn’t. I grabbed these heart shaped place mats from the Target Dollar Spot and used these cute sayings to customize them.

Supplies

Go ahead and open the public Design Space file. You can now open shared canvases on your mobile app. That is huge news for me and anyone else who cuts using the Bluetooth capability on your Explore or Maker.Once your canvas is open, send it to your machine. Be sure to mirror your image! The Explore models have the smart dial and you can easily choose Iron-On vinyl. When you have a Cricut Maker, everything is chosen just like it’s a custom material. You have a list of items to chose from. There is either Iron-On Vinyl or HTV. Some people have chosen HTV and it cuts through the carrier sheet. Choose the Iron-On setting and you’ll have a perfect cut every time.Weed out the negative space of your Iron-On Vinyl and preheat your EasyPress to the correct setting. If using Iron-On Lite, choose 305 degrees.Plave a folded towel on a firm surface and place your Valentine place mats on the towel. Pre-heat the place mats for around 10 secondsand then plave your image where you want it. Press for 25-30 seconds, turn the placemat over and press again for the same amount of time.Peel off the carrier sheet and you’re ready. TO care for your items, wait at least 24 hours to wash. These placemats can’t be turned inside out but if you have clothes, be sure to turn them inside out when washing them.

Supplies

DIY Felt Valentine Banner using your Cricut Maker. So easy.Begin by gathering all your materials and opening the Cricut Design Space file. You’ll want to cut your white pennants first out of white felt. I found some wool felt from Joann but you can use the less expensive sheets.DIY Felt Valentine Banner using your Cricut Maker. So easy.Next you’ll cut your hearts. If you want all the same color, just use the color sync function in Design Space to make sure that they all cut out of the same sheet of felt.DIY Felt Valentine Banner using your Cricut Maker. So easy. When cutting felt with your Cricut Maker, you want to use the pink mat along with the rotary blade. You’ll choose the setting that will automatically select the rotary blade. When you cut Cricut felt, it is a lot stiffer so you’re able to use the deep cut blade. If you don’t have the deep cut blade, don’t worry. Just select the other setting and use the rotary blade for any felt.DIY Felt Valentine Banner using your Cricut Maker. So easy.Once all your pieces are cut, use the Liquid Thread and place the glue on the back of the hearts. While the glue is still wet, use your iron or EasyPress to follow the directions on the bottle to get the glue to stick. I pressed longer than the 60 seconds it recommended but it did work. I’d say I pressed for at least 120 seconds at 305°F.DIY Felt Valentine Banner using your Cricut Maker. These DIY Valentine Pillows were a lot of fun to make. Check out other ideas that you can use your Cricut for other Valentine crafts.

Supplies for your Valentine Pillows

So start by uploading your images into Design Space. Since these are .svg files, it’s just a straight download. You don’t need to edit the image before importing it.

For the girl’s face, I used plain htv for the eyes, bow, and mouth. For her cheeks, I used pink glitter.

Love you to the moon and back SVG

On the Moon and Back image, I used black glitter and weeded it using my BrightPad. You don’t have to have one but it’s been a lifesaver when weeding glitter htv. Because the image is pretty detailed, some of the glitters peeled up. For that reason, I just pulled up all the polka dots in the O and A. I just used some scissors to clean up the lines.

how to use the cricut bright pad

If you use the standard Iron-On for that image, you should be ok. When you’re ready to press, use the Cricut EasyPress to get good adhesion. For easy weed htv, use your EasyPress at 305º for 25-30 seconds.

When you use your EasyPress for glitter Iron-On, use 325º for 25-30 seconds. Use your Iron-On Protection sheet to be sure not to have the EasyPress touch any exposed Iron-On. Or you can just lay the carrier sheet back over the image.

I found these adorable felt envelopes in the Dollar Spot section at Target. What can’t you find at Target? I knew that I wanted to make these personalized for Valentines Day and fill them with goodies for my kids. I made a really cute SVG file and sized it to fit perfectly in my deisng software. I added each of their names underneath and I may just keep them do this every year.

Supplies for your Valentine Felt Envelopes

Begin by opening the SVG file and upload it into your design software, then send it to your machine. Be sure to mirror the image when using any iron-on. To prepare your image, you’re going to weed out the negative space of the file. The main image will remain on the carrier sheet. You do not want to cut all the way through the carrier sheet for Iron-On.

Create these easy DIY Felt Valentine Envelopes. Give them to your kids for the perfect Valentines gift.

Lay your image on your felt envelope and press. If you’re using the Cricut EasyPress to press your iron-on foil, set your machine to 300°. Preheat your envelope for 10 seconds and lay the image where you want it. Place your iron-on protective sheet over the image and press for 25-30 seconds.

You can peel your iron-on foil warm but it is best to allow it to cool. Give it 1-2 minutes. If you’re going to press it with your iron, head here for tips
