Dr. Seuss’ birthday is celebrated in American schools during February. My kids are having a Snacks With Seuss breakfast celebration and they’re dressing up all week almost like Red Ribbon Week. I wanted to make some Dr. Seuss party invitations to commemorate a wonderful author and one that had a unique art style.

I love Dr. Seuss’ art because he didn’t care if it looked perfect. Everyone had their own uniqueness and quirks and I think that is true in real life. If you use a Cricut for this card, you can download the SVG file available in the Silhouette Online Store for an extra $.50. I love Silhouette’s shapes and so this is a win-win for Cricut users.Celebrate Dr. Suess' birthday by making your own Dr. Seuss Invitaion and passing it off to those lucky guests. How do I turn my Silhouette shape into a card?

You’re going to first have the fishbowl shape and you’re going to want to duplicate it. Take your shape and use the replicating tool in your Silhouette software and mirror the shape to the right. Nudge the shape over about .10″ and then weld the shapes together.

To add a score line on your card, draw a line down the center of the two shapes and then change the line style to be perforated. Attach the fishbowl shape and your score line together before you cut your card.

If you’re making a score line in Cricut Design Space, you’ll just create a single line and then choose to have it as a scoring line rather than a cut line. Again, attach the scoreline and then fishbowl shape together before you cut your card.Celebrate Dr. Suess' birthday by making your own Dr. Seuss Invitaion and passing it off to those lucky guests. Give this card as a sentiment for a graduate or just to display the cute little fishbowl card. #drseuss #cricut #silhouettecameo #drseussbirthday #drseuss #partyinvitation #ohtheplacesyoullgo After you’ve cut out all your shapes, you’re going to want to run all your small shapes through a Xyron Sticker Maker. You can use the 3″ Disposable Sticker Maker for all the tiny shapes and you’re not going to have your fingers all up in the adhesive. Or if you have the 1″ sticker maker, all you have to do is drop and then pull and your shapes will become a sticker. Celebrate Dr. Suess' birthday by making your own Dr. Seuss Invitaion and passing it off to those lucky guests. If you want to have your Silhouette or Cricut write the words for you, you can skip all the tiny letters in the sticker maker.Celebrate Dr. Suess' birthday by making your own Dr. Seuss Invitaion and passing it off to those lucky guests. Custom St Patricks Day Napkins using HTV

February 19, 2019

I love using HTV on napkins. They can be fabric or paper napkins and the HTV holds up so well to all the rough wear and tear of meals. Make custom St Patricks Day napkins to make your tablescape pop. I learned a trick from my friend Charynn of Pineapple Paper Company. If you can’t find any napkins that match your decor, make them! These custom St Patricks Day napkins were a breeze to make using some Iron On Vinyl and my Silhouette Cameo. Make your own custom napkins using your Silhouette Cameo and some HTV. Supplies for your custom St Patricks Day napkins –

I have used Iron On Vinyl on everything from cardstock to girly paper napkins. It can be used for so much more than just fabric. I’ve used HTV on glassware and I’m definitely not done experimenting with it yet.

If you want a more formal looking tablescape, use some HTV on plain fabric napkins and they can be used year after year. I love this kind of speckled holographic vinyl for these St Patricks Day napkins because it looks like a bunch of gold coins piled together. Use any HTV you have on hand or grab some of this cause it’s perfect!

Turn ordinary napkins into a stunning focal point of your table setting. #silhouettecameo #silhouetteamerica #cricuteasypress #htv #ironon #cricut #stpatricksdaycraft #stpatricksdaytable #stpatricksdaypartyI cut this on my new Silhouette Cameo and it was fun using one again after only having a Cricut for a few years. Truth be told, I still like the way my Cricut cuts better but it is nice to have both for comparisons for all of you.

Just cut out the shape and have it mirrored before you cut. I used the Heat Transfer Vinyl, Foil setting and took the blade up to a 4 to cut it smoothly. It was only one pass and weeding it was really easy.

Press using a steamless iron or a Cricut EasyPress. I use it on the lowest heat setting and press firmly for 10 seconds at a time. Turn it over and get a good press for about 5-10 seconds and then remove the carrier sheet. Make your own custom napkins using your Silhouette Cameo and some HTV. That’s it. These St Patricks Day napkins are perfect for a lucky table setting and lucky friends and family.

Frenchie for Expressions Vinyl

I had the opportunity to guest post on Expressions Vinyl blog a few weeks ago and I wanted to share with my blog too. I’ve worked with them before for my daughters party to update some really fun clothes we found at Target for her birthday. I really love their vinyl and their Vinyl Heat Transfer, it’s really some of the best I’ve worked with!

For this project I decided to use Gold Chrome (Brushed) Metalized Vinyl. I had the intention of cutting out the girls’ names but each font I used was just not cutting well regardless of what setting I had my blade on. I had a hard time getting a deep enough cut on this vinyl. It was cutting but when it came time to separate it, it would stick a lot. It is beautiful though so if I was going to use it again, which I am sure I will, I will just plan on maybe using a mat and cutting a 10. I ended up just using the feather graphic that was in the Silhouette store and then I paired it with the awesome Market Street line by My Minds Eye. It matched perfect and it looks lovely.

In comparison of my Silhouette and the Cricut Explore, I have to give the cutting to the Explore. The software goes to Silhouette at the moment but I know Cricut is not too far behind. I gave this journal to our Young Woman President, she really deserved it. I couldn’t have done any of this without any of the presidency, but she really guided me. She basically planned the whole camp without knowing it!

Disclosure: I did receive the Vinyl in exchange from Expressions Vinyl to do this post. All opinions are 100% mine.

I love using my Silhouette Cameo. I’ve been looking into the new Cricut Explore and I’ve been really tempted. I’ve seen it in action and the smoothness, quietness, all the bells and whistles can’t compare, but for now I really do love my Cameo and until I can save my money, I’ll be using that. When I do get my Cricut, you’ll be the first to know! Don’t forget that you can get a free weekly shape in their Design Space too.

I have used Vinyl Heat Transfer before and let me tell you, I have not been impressed. I have always used the Silhouette America brand. When I was at SNAP! I had the opportunity to meet up with Expressions Vinyl. I asked Megan a lot of questions. I had seen their brand before but never used it because I thought that all VHT was treated the same. Boy was I wrong!

Expressions Vinyl was so kind to send me some of their Vegas Gold VHT to transform Leila’s outfit and my niece Penny’s outfit for our Poodle Party. I really wish I got better pictures of Leila’s bum but a. it’s a little creepy and b. they couldn’t keep still. They just love each other. Don’t they look just alike? lol!

I started with designing my cut files in my program and then I mirror imaged them so that when I ironed them on they will show the correct way. I just used a font called Katie Rose that I purchased for my website and business for $16 and the shape I got in the Silhouette store for $.99 and I just searched for poodle. I do have a subscription and it’s $8 a month and I get $25 worth of shapes a month. Totally worth it!

Once it was mirrored, it was time to load it into my machine. I don’t use the craft mat when I do vinyl of any kind. That is my preference. You’ll want to adjust your bar as well so that it’ll be 12 inches rather than 13 inches for the mat. I’ve attached some pictures below on what that should look like.
EX Party Collage
Once you’ve done that it’ll be time to load, so press the load media button. When you load it, there will be a shiny side of the VHT and a matte side. Load it in with the shiny side on the bottom. You’ll want your ratchet blade to be on setting 3 though they recommend setting 2. When it got down to the details it was hard to remove the VHT. If your design isn’t super detailed like the poodle, you can get away with a 2 but for my letters I had to use a 3. Adjust the settings on the computer to make sure it matches the machine and press start. I’m still getting used to the new system but so far I think I like it.
EX Party Frenchie 4
Once it is cut, you’ll want to cut away the excess. I use my paper trimmer and cut straight across so that I’ll have a straight line to use the rest at a later time and not a wonky piece. Use your weeding tool and remove the portion that you do not want ironed on. Be very careful because it will come up and it doesn’t just go back down. It’s not like regular vinyl and it does stretch. Once it’s weeded, you’ll want to lay your design where you want it and preheat your iron. Do not have the steam setting on and have it between your cotton and poly setting. You’ll want to place the iron on top of the design and keep the iron moving but be careful to not actually move the plastic because the design may actually move. If it’s hot enough you can peel the design up but it will leave a bit of residue on the clothes. This is a hot/cool peel VHT so you can take it off right away or wait a while to do so.

EX Party Poodle
I really have to say that my mind has been changed about VHT. Expressions Vinyl did this for me. They are a fabulous company with so many options to take care of you. If you are looking for a craft cutting machine, they’ve got you covered too. This Vegas Gold was perfect for our party too. It’s not overly gold and just the right amount of sheen. They shipped this so fast and you get free shipping for orders over $75! If you’re looking to do a wall treatment or even fabric treatment, you can’t beat their prices for their quality. You’ll save yourself a lot of headache. Believe me, I have learned. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been frustrated over thinking why something isn’t working for me when knowing there was a better company out there and I didn’t try it due to my own ignorance. You have to give Expressions Vinyl a try! Stay tuned as well, I just may have a giveaway too!
