Harry Potter Easter Eggs with Paper House Productions

April 16, 2019

Easter is right around the corner. Create your very own Harry Potter Easter eggs to add some magic to your holiday.

Harry Potter Easter Eggs

If you’ve been a reader of the blog then you’ll know that I love the Harry Potter series and that I love scrapbooking supplies. What better way to intermingle the two things I love and create a stellar project with just some Harry Potter Washi Tape and some wooden Easter Eggs. These Harry Potter Easter Eggs are perfect decor because they don’t spoil!

Harry Potter Easter Egg Craft

When I was told that I would be on the Harry Potter Design Team with Paper House Productions, I was extremely excited. I love seeing where this little blog takes me and it also gives me an opportunity to share with you the products that I love.

This Harry Potter scrapbook line is perfect for any wizard scrapbook layout or a simple enough Easter craft using some wooden eggs I got in the Target Dollar Spot. Read on to see how easy these were to make.

Harry Potter Easter Eggs

Time needed: 2 minutes.

Harry Potter Easter Egg Craft

  1. Wrap your Wooden Eggs in Washi Tape

Start with a clean wooden egg and start your tape at the base and wrap around to cover the entirety of the egg.

Use the smaller, thinner Harry Potter Washi Tape rather than the wider tape. The thinner one allows more of a snug adherence and the edges won’t lift like they do in the image below.

Supplies for your Harry Potter Holiday Craft

So tell me, what would you make using your Harry Potter Washi Tape? Would you make Easter eggs just as I did? See you guys next month with another Paper House Productions Harry Potter project.

DIY Hot Wheels Storage & Display for all your Die Cast Cars!

April 11, 2019

Is your child obsessed with Matchbox Cars and you don’t know where to put them? I’ve got an easy way to make your own Hot Wheels storage display that any cars crazed kid will love.

Hot Wheels Storage Ideas

Malakai is crazy for his cars and he has a bit of OCD tendencies when he wants to arrange them. They’ve got to be facing the correct way and he wants to know they’re going to stay that way. My husband and I came up with this toy car storage solution so that I won’t have cars all over my desk and they can be displayed just how he likes them. Create this Hot Wheels storage to make your life a little easier like it’s made mine.

If you didn’t know, Malakai was born premature so he really does have OCD tendencies when it comes to really anything. He will cry for longer than I like to admit and so for my sanity this had to happen. We also have about a 1500 sq. ft. house and so a large toy car storage solution isn’t very practical for us.

We used some inexpensive 3X.5″ planks and some L brackets to set this up. My husband also decided to give his brother my Ryobi nail gun so this was done the old-fashioned way with some nails and good ole elbow grease and some math. I’m glad it’s up though because his toy cars were getting out of control.

Supplies for your DIY Toy Car Storage

  • 3X.5″ Wood Planks
  • L Brackets
  • Nails and Hammer or Nail Gun
  • Wood Putty
  • Mouse Sander and Sand Paper
  • Wood Stain
  • Cheesecloth
  • Drill
  • Wall Screws

How to make a Display for your Diecast Cars

We began by measuring the small area of our corner. Our cutout on this wall is 34″ high and so we began by figuring out how high we wanted it to go. I didn’t want it to be exactly where the wall cut off so we measured and cut two boards 32″ high as our endcaps.

We then measured how wide we needed the wooden planks for your car toy display. The other side of this corner wall is a large window so one side was longer than the other. The width on the smaller length of the wall is 34″ wide and on the longer side we cut the boards to be 50″ wide.

Cut your wood planks to those lengths and then cut one side on each board on a 45-degree angle to create the corner pieces and so that they’ll match flush.

The base of our toy car display is right on top of our baseboard. He can have cars on the floor and then build up the car display case and place them on each shelf having their eyes look right at him and he’s as content as can be.

How to attach your Hot Wheels Storage to the Walls

In the corners, we used the L Brackets so that the boards would not bend and they were supported. You can use a Kreg Jig but don’t ask me how to do it. This isn’t so much a permanent fixture in our home so I wanted it just to be up and something that can easily be taken down for when we move.

Secure one side of the bracket to the board before you assemble completely. Put two on each corner piece. Each board is 3″‘ apart, Use some finishing nails and secure the wooden planks together and then use your wood filler to fill in the nail hole and seams.

Wait for it to dry and then sand the wood filler as smooth as possible. Use a mouse sander because that’ll cut your time in half with that tool alone.

One thing we didn’t do while it was off the wall was stained it and that was the worst mistake we made. Stain your wood using some mixed stain and a cheesecloth. Wipe it on your wood and let it sit for a few minutes then wipe with a clean cloth.

And just so you know, I did have to wait until Malakai was at the babysitter before I could arrange the cars the way I wanted them to look. They’re already on the floor. LOL

I love my EasyPress but I also do not have space in my home for a Heat Press. Her comparison is definitely helpful in figuring out what you want to use when making T-Shirts and other items. Craft Room Organization Ideas with DYMO

April 1, 2019

This is a sponsored posts brought to you by DYMO, all opinions are my own.

Keeping a Craft Room clean and organized is hard. I’ve learned through the years some cool and pretty-to-look-at Craft Room Organization Ideas that I can’t wait to share with you.

Craft Room Organization Ideas

My Craft Room Organization Ideas will take your space to a new level. My craft room is part of my bedroom and it has definitely seen better days. I tried by putting my photo area against my wall and then have a desk in the middle and I think it just took up too much space for it to be efficient.

A trick to remember when you’re organizing your craft room is to measure first! I say this laughing because I am infamous for just trying to get something done and not measuring so it just packs in tight together. I bought some cabinets a few years ago along with 10 rubber totes and none of them fit. I try to be on top of it and then I do stuff like that and don’t care to finish.

Rainbow Bookends

To make your own Rainbow Bookends, check out how I made them with my Cricut Maker here.

What kind of DYMO Label Maker should I buy?

The COLORPOP! Label Maker is the perfect label maker to buy. It fits in your hand and you can easily type the sayings you need just like a phone. The new COLORPOP! tape comes in seven sparkly colors to match any decor. I have a white room with bright accents so the Pink Glitter COLORPOP! tape is perfect.

Where do I begin when organizing my Craft Room?

When you start organizing, go ahead and grab some laundry baskets and separate your piles. I like to arrange my piles into categories, so glue or sewing for one. Then once everything is separated, I place them in clear bins.

Begin by labeling the bins and making sure that only those things go into those labeled properly. If you just start throwing things in there without a plan, it’ll just become more cluttered and inefficient.

It will get worse before it gets better so just remember that. This is also a perfect opportunity to get rid of things that you don’t use. Donate them to local schools or charities, somewhere where you know they will get used and cherished.

How to organize Craft Tools on your wall

I grabbed a few peg boards from Ikea which are inexpensive and stylish. I’ve seen where people will get the actual pegboard from your local hardware store and you can paint it any tone you want.

Hooks are a must and I love how my Cricut tools have holes in the handle so that they can easily be hung. I also took some hooks and organized all my cutting mats so that they’d hang for easy access.

I use a variety of hanging bins so that I can have many small items in the tiny drawers. I grabbed this cool little system from my local craft store and it hooks right on to the peg board so that I can keep all my cutting blades inside so I don’t lose it all in the end. I used my DYMO COLORPOP! to label the bins so I can keep track.

Easiest way to store Cardstock

I have these paper trays from We R Memory Keepers and they are perfect. They fit 12″ cardstock perfectly. I prefer to color code my solid cardstock so that it’s easier to find. For scrapbook paper with designs, I keep them in a cart standing upwards so that they’re easily accessible. Another great thing to use if you don’t have space for shelving is the shoe holders from Ikea – Hey, Let’s Make Stuff has perfected this idea.

These Ikea shelves are perfect for holding other boxes full of random things. On the shelves, to hold my Silhouette and Cricut, I just kept one of the dividers out of the assembly and it left a perfect amount of space for my machines.

To store my EasyPresses, I grabbed this shoe shelf from Ikea and I store it underneath my desk along with the other bins that I’ve labeled with my COLORPOP! Label Maker.

organization under a desk

My biggest pieces of advice for organizing your Craft Space

Allocate your space evenly and effectively. Use your walls, find cabinets that will fit your space and jimmy rig them to be most effective to you. You cannot be afraid to utilize the space at eye level rather than worrying so much about what may be at ground level.

Use clear bins to organize and label your items. Make sure you know what is inside of them and put them back when you’re finished. That last part I have a hard time sticking to but now that they’re labeled with my COLORPOP! Label Maker, it makes it much easier.

12" paper storage ideas

With the COLORPOP! Label Maker you can customize your labels with 6 font sizes, 8 text styles, 4 borders, and 150+ emojis and symbols. You can use any DYMO D1 sized label tape in it up to 1/2″ so use whatever color you desire.

Create a perfect handmade baby shower card for your next loved one’s life-changing event. Use your Cricut Maker to create this cute baby shaker card. I’ve tried a few times to make shaker cards using dies but I like to do it with my Cricut now that I’ve figured out how. Cutting acetate can be tricky using your Cricut but I’ve gotten great results using my Knife Blade and my Cricut Maker.

how to write with cricut

You will first begin by opening up your Cricut Design Space File and then you will send it to your Cricut Maker. The first canvas should be your Kraft Board which is the one that will use the Scoring Wheel and a Fine Point Black Marker.

After you’ve cut and drawn your shapes out of the white and the patterned cardstock, load your acetate into your Cricut. Use the Cricut Knife Blade to cut your acetate into the small square to go right behind the Hello Baby layer. Adhere your acetate using your Xyron Mega Runner.

Next, place the foam tape all around the edges of your small square and then go around the onesie to make a barrier. You’ll fill that barrier with your sequins and then lay your folded card on top so that you have it secured to each other.

Using HTV on a shirt is very easy. After you have uploaded your SVG file into Design Space or you’ve uploaded the SVG file into the Silhouette software, you want to mirror your image before you cut.

Lay your HTV on the mat shiny side down. This carrier sheet will hold your entire image together for you. After you’ve cut, remove any unwanted HTV from the carrier sheet.

Prepare your toddler t-shirt for the HTV by preheating your fabric. This will remove the moisture from your fabric and allow the HTV to stick better and not lift.

Using a folded towel on a sturdy surface is perfect for pressing the HTV to your shirt. Do not use an ironing board. It is too bendy in the middle (that’s a term) and it doesn’t allow even heat to be distributed.

Have you really pushed the limits with your Cricut Maker yet? Making custom cake stands out of wood or custom cake stands out of chipboard is easier than ever. Utilize the Cricut Knife Blade in a way you never thought before. Make your own out of this world cake stand using your Cricut Maker. I, like many other mothers, enjoy making a birthday party better than ever. I don’t like to spend that much money buying custom things that will most likely never get used again. Creating this custom cake stand using my Cricut Maker was one of the most genius things my friend could have ever thought of. Make your own out of this world cake stand using your Cricut Maker. Cut all the pieces using your Cricut Knife Blade and then adhere the iridescent cardstock to it by using your Xyron Creative Station. #cricutmade #cricutmaker #diypartydecor #partydecorations #cakestand #outerspaceparty #spaceshipparty

Supplies for your DIY Cake Stand

When you’re making your own custom cake stand with the Cricut, you have to look at the dimensions of everything. Your cake, the width of the shape, your cut allowance on the material, and the thickness of the material.

Begin by pulling up the shape that you want to cut. Look for a shape that has a wide bottom and straight line for stability.

The top doesn’t have to be as wide because we’ll square it off to make a flat surface for the tray. To do that, move your object to the latitude and longitude of 0.

Click on the shapes on the left-hand side and add a square. Click on the lower left lock and then set your square to about 2” tall and an inch or two wider than your shape.

Select both the square and the shape and hit the slice function. If Design Space has the sliced feature grayed out, it means that you have more than the two layers selected. You will have to ungroup your main shape if it has more than one layer.

This will create a flat surface on the top of your shape and then you’ll duplicate it.

Measure the thickness of your material. Some will already be labeled for you on the box or use a ruler. Select the shape icon again and add another square to your canvas.

Click on the lock to unlock your square and size it so that it is wide enough that both pieces will interlock.

When using the chipboard and some My Minds Eye cardstock, I used the width of .1”. You want the height of your small line to be a smidgen over half.  This custom cake stand was 10” high so my squares were .1×5.3”. Duplicate that square. Make your own out of this world cake stand using your Cricut Maker. Cut all the pieces using your Cricut Knife Blade and then adhere the iridescent cardstock to it by using your Xyron Creative Station. #cricutmade #cricutmaker #diypartydecor #partydecorations #cakestand #outerspaceparty #spaceshipparty

The thickness of the Cricut Chipboard is 2mm or.08″

Now use one shape and have one square centered towards the bottom of the shape and the other square centered on the other shape on the upper portion. Use your slice function again like when we made our shape originally flat.

There are additional clouds on this cake stand because it would be pretty wobbly without it. Just adhere two to each portion of the base to create a squared up leg of the DIY cake stand.

Adhere your material to your Strong Grip Cricut by using some painters tape or masking tape. Just whatever you have around that will also peel easily off your material. Move your star wheels all the way to the right before you load your mat into your Cricut Maker.

After you’ve hit your load button, make sure your Knife Blade is in the Adaptive Tool System and hit Go!

This certain cut took me about 3 hours. This rocket ship cake stand does not have a bunch of weird angles, they’re all pretty straight. When you cut the cake plate area, that cut will maybe be 4 minutes because it is just a simple circle. Make your own out of this world cake stand using your Cricut Maker. Cut all the pieces using your Cricut Knife Blade and then adhere the iridescent cardstock to it by using your Xyron Creative Station. #cricutmade #cricutmaker #diypartydecor #partydecorations #cakestand #outerspaceparty #spaceshipparty

How so I glue Cricut Chipboard?

I’ve gone over this a few times and have learned that you cannot mix dry adhesive with a wet adhesive. I ran all of my cardstock through my Xyron Creative Station and then adhered it on top of my chipboard.

To adhere to the smaller peg pieces to the larger chipboard cake stand, use some hot glue and use it on the edges and then adhere the edges to the corners of the base.

My Knife Blade cut through my Cricut Maker!

Yes, this can happen. You need to pay attention to your cuts because some cuts may not need all the 20 passes. The Cricut Maker has had instances where it started cutting into the mat and then into the machine.

This is not normal but I also don’t know how Cricut will warranty the machine in those cases. Just watch your shape throughout the cut and even closer as the cut comes towards to the end.

Can you modify the Cricut Knife Blade settings?

No. Cricut Knife Blade material settings are not yet modifiable. This is because Cricut does a lot of research on the back end of the Makers materials and these are the settings they’ve used and tested.

I’ve never been able to edit my tools and select a Knife Blade for any of those because if Cricut doesn’t have it listed in the materials section, it probably didn’t work out for them and so they don’t want you ruining your machine. Making Mothers Day Gifts are always a fun thing to do but it can be hard to come up with ideas. I love that I can open up Cricut Design Space and I’ve got all the inspiration right there! Creating a Mothers Day Shadow Box can be as personalized as you want. Add some paper flowers to the backdrop or just some beautiful scrapbook paper.

My kids call my mom Nani and so when I saw this one shape that said MOM, I just used my contour tool and clicked on that word to remove it. I added in Nani using the Felix font in Cricut Design Space. I used some brushed metal vinyl and cut it on the Adhesive Foil setting and had it pass two times. It gave the perfect kiss cut to the vinyl and made it a dream to weed.Create the perfect Mothers Day gift for that special Grandma in your life. Apply vinyl to glassI used this Natalie Malan scrapbook paper available at JoAnn and it’s insanely beautiful. She makes the most perfect compositions and the colors are always on point. I used her fabric from Coats to make these cute American Girl jumpsuits and I love the detail.

Cut the scrapbook page to be 9×9″ so that it would fit perfectly in the shadow boxes available at Michaels Stores. I realize this a busy pattern and so it can be hard to see if it’s not in the right light but the pinks go so well with the rose gold vinyl. In person, you can see the shimmer of the metal vinyl and then the softness of the watercolor flowers and birds.Create the perfect Mothers Day gift for that special Grandma in your life.
